MuscleSport Is Rethinking Cream of Rice: Bacon, Egg & Cheese Might Be Their Boldest Move Yet

MuscleSport has been awfully quiet this August. Now we know why.

September is coming in hot with two Lean Whey flavors returning from the vault, a new fall-inspired Cream’d Rice flavor, and one of the most creative products I’ve seen from MuscleSport yet.

Bacon, Egg & Cheese Protein Cream’d Rice.

Yes. Bacon. Egg. And cheese. It sounds completely insane, but the more I looked at what MuscleSport actually created, the more I realized this isn't just a flavor designed to make you stop scrolling.

It's actually a really smart product idea.

And it represents something MuscleSport has become exceptionally good at: taking sports nutrition staples we've eaten a thousand times before and asking how they can make the experience significantly better.

MuscleSport Has Always Understood That the Experience Matters

If there's one category MuscleSport has built its reputation around, it's protein.

I've tried enough of their products at this point to recognize what separates them from a lot of the category: they care about the entire eating experience.

Quality matters, obviously. But MuscleSport understands that quality alone doesn't make you excited to open a tub every day.

Flavor matters. Texture matters. Inclusions matter.

When the label says a protein tastes like a dessert, MuscleSport doesn't seem satisfied with simply creating a liquid that vaguely resembles that dessert. They want to build an experience around the flavor.

That's a huge reason I've become such a fan of the brand — and why I've somehow decided that trying every MuscleSport protein flavor is a reasonable life goal.

But lately, MuscleSport has been taking that same mentality and applying it to another bodybuilding staple:

Cream of rice.

Cream'd Rice Has Become MuscleSport's New Playground

Cream of rice certainly isn't new to sports nutrition.

For bodybuilders and performance athletes, it's about as familiar as it gets: an easily prepared source of carbohydrates that's simple to build a meal around.

It's also not exactly the most exciting food on Earth.

MuscleSport's Cream'd Rice line has been attacking that problem by treating cream of rice less like a commodity and more like an actual food product.

The first thing that stood out to me when I tried it was the texture. MuscleSport absolutely nailed it.

Then there are the inclusions, which add another dimension to the experience instead of relying entirely on powdered flavoring.

But perhaps most interestingly, MuscleSport has shown that it isn't afraid to take cream of rice somewhere most companies haven't:

Savory.

We've already seen the brand experiment with flavors like Nacho Cheese and Nonna's Pizza.

That alone was unusual in a category dominated by sweet flavors.

Now MuscleSport is taking the concept one step further.

Bacon, Egg & Cheese Cream'd Rice Is "Smart Weird"

Launching September 18, MuscleSport's new Bacon, Egg & Cheese Protein Cream'd Rice is exactly the kind of product that makes you do a double take.

And to be clear, weird does not automatically equal innovative.

Sports nutrition has plenty of products created primarily because someone in a marketing meeting realized they'd generate clicks.

Novelty gets someone to try a product once. It doesn't necessarily give them a reason to buy it again.

That's why this one caught my attention.

Because underneath the insanity of putting "Bacon, Egg & Cheese" on a tub of Cream'd Rice is an idea that makes a surprising amount of sense.

Look at what athletes are already eating.

Cream of rice and egg whites.

It's practically a bodybuilding cliché at this point.

MuscleSport essentially took components of a meal people in this space already eat and asked:

What if we could turn this into one convenient product and make it taste like one of the most iconic New York style breakfasts?

Now we're talking.

The Protein Source Makes the Concept Even Better

This could have gone very wrong.

Imagine bacon, egg and cheese-flavored cream of rice mixed with a creamy vanilla whey protein.

Gross.

Instead, MuscleSport built the protein component primarily around egg white protein, alongside collagen peptides.

That makes far more sense within the culinary concept of the product.

According to the label, a 50-gram serving delivers 170 calories, 15 grams of protein, 26 grams of carbohydrates and 1 gram of fat.

The formula combines cream of rice with egg white protein and hydrolyzed collagen peptides, then adds bacon-flavored bits and a savory seasoning system to complete the experience.

So while the name might initially sound like MuscleSport has completely lost its mind, there's logic underneath it.

This isn't simply bacon-flavored cream of rice.

It's a protein and carbohydrate breakfast built around cream of rice.

And that distinction matters.

Weird Isn't Innovation. Useful Weird Is.

This is where I think MuscleSport deserves credit.

I don't want weird products just because they're weird.

I don't want brands chasing TikTok reactions by creating flavors nobody actually wants to consume after the first scoop.

Innovation should solve something.

Sometimes that's a major nutritional or technological problem. Sometimes it's much simpler:

How do we make something people already eat every day better?

Bacon, Egg & Cheese Protein Cream'd Rice takes a familiar sports nutrition meal, makes it more convenient, and gives consumers a completely different experience than the endless parade of sweet breakfast products.

That's useful weird.

The novelty gets your attention. The functionality gives you a reason to buy it again.

And that's a distinction more brands should pay attention to.

And MuscleSport Isn't Done With Cream'd Rice

For those of us who aren't quite ready to start our mornings with bacon-flavored sports nutrition, there's another Cream'd Rice flavor joining the lineup:

Pecan Praline Pumpkin Pie.

And I have absolutely zero objectivity here.

I am basic as hell when pumpkin season arrives, and I refuse to apologize for it.

Pumpkin pie paired with pecan praline is exactly the kind of flavor combination that fits MuscleSport's strength: taking something familiar and pushing the dessert experience further through flavor and inclusions.

So yes, while Bacon, Egg & Cheese gets the innovation spotlight, Pecan Praline Pumpkin Pie is probably the bag I'm opening first. Know thyself.

The Lean Whey Vault Is Opening Too

September isn't exclusively about Cream'd Rice.

MuscleSport is also reaching back into its extensive Lean Whey catalog and bringing back two flavors I haven't gotten my hands on yet.

First is Nice N' Crispy Lean Whey Iso-Hydro, a Rice Krispies Treat-inspired flavor featuring puffed rice cereal inclusions.

Then there's Cinnamon Bun Cheesecake Lean Whey, which combines two dessert profiles that sound almost unfairly suited to MuscleSport.

I've tried neither.

Considering I am currently on a completely unnecessary mission to try my way through the MuscleSport protein catalog, that's a problem I intend to correct.

The returning proteins and Pecan Praline Pumpkin Pie Cream'd Rice also arrive at a convenient time: MuscleSport's Labor Day sale runs September 4–7 with 15% off, before Bacon, Egg & Cheese Protein Cream'd Rice makes its debut September 18.

Sports Nutrition Could Use More Creativity Like This

What I like most about these launches isn't any individual flavor.

It's what they say about how MuscleSport approaches product development.

The supplement industry can sometimes get trapped in a very narrow definition of innovation.

We think innovation has to mean discovering a new ingredient, developing a new delivery system, or adding more actives to a formula.

Those things absolutely can be innovation.

But food innovation matters, too.

How do you make hitting your macros less monotonous?

How do you turn a bodybuilding staple into something people genuinely look forward to eating?

How do you use texture, flavor, inclusions and culinary inspiration to create an experience instead of simply another functional powder?

Those are worthwhile questions.

MuscleSport has already demonstrated that philosophy with protein, where the brand has become one of my favorites precisely because it refuses to treat flavor as an afterthought.

Cream'd Rice feels like the next evolution of that mentality.

And Bacon, Egg & Cheese might be its boldest example yet.

On paper, it sounds ridiculous.

In practice, it's MuscleSport taking cream of rice + protein — something athletes already consume — and completely reimagining how that meal could look and taste.

That's the kind of product development I want to see more of.

Not different just to be different.

Not weird just to go viral.

Creative. Functional. Memorable.

And maybe just a little fucking unhinged.

That's a combination MuscleSport seems to be getting very good at.
